The Hill

We’re excited to announce plans to transform part of Valley Children’s Madera campus into a thriving, 220-acre mixed-use area called “The Hill.” This forward-thinking initiative combines healthcare, housing, retail, recreation, office space and hospitality to enrich the lives of patients, families, staff and the broader community.

The Hill will be a thoughtfully designed community, integrating five districts – healthcare, residential, retail, hospitality and recreation – all surrounding our main hospital. With this new vision for the project, we are reimagining how healthcare can holistically support a thriving community.

“Our patients and families need more than a hospital, and we need to ensure there is a sustainable financial future for Valley Children’s. The Hill is a perfect expansion of our main campus, designed to meet the needs of our patients and families, support our dedicated team and ensure a sustainable future for Valley Children’s.”

A Vision for Sustainable Healthcare and Community Growth

At a time when many rural hospitals are closing, The Hill is a vital step toward ensuring the long-term future of pediatric healthcare in the Central Valley. Additionally, we hope to attract and retain the best healthcare providers. The initial plans prioritize the development of a holistic campus environment with trails and other amenities that support Valley Children’s patients, families, physicians and staff.

Why is this important? Because our patients and their families travel from 11 counties to access world-class pediatric care in Madera. Our vision is to create a peaceful retreat where families can take a break, recharge and find comfort during their child’s hospital stay. The Hill will be a welcoming space that reflects our commitment to caring for the whole family, offering moments of rest and relief when they need it most.

The revenue generated from this mixed-use community will directly support hospital operations, helping Valley Children’s continue to provide world-class pediatric care for generations to come. Additionally, The Hill will boost the local economy by creating new jobs, increasing tax revenue and attracting visitors to Madera County.

“I believe it is a brilliant idea to enhance revenue at Valley Children’s for those services necessary to take care of kids. It is always about the care – that is number one. But it is also about supporting employees and residents in the area.”

Rob Poythress, Madera County Board of Supervisors Chair

By blending healthcare excellence with economic and community growth, Valley Children’s is paving the way for a brighter future for kids, families and the region as a whole.
