Building Careers and Community Through Internships

Valley Children’s launched its internship program with Fresno State in 2023 to develop a diverse, future healthcare workforce while fostering community ties. Our paid internships offer meaningful experiences in clinical and non-clinical settings, along with mentorship, and the opportunity to explore different potential careers in healthcare.

As part of this program, interns work across various hospital areas – both clinical and non-clinical – gaining exposure to different career paths.

“One of our key principles in developing the internship program was to make sure that we could attract as diverse a candidate pool as possible and appropriately support the focus that is required to be both a student and to do an internship,” said Kelly Beall, Valley Children’s Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer. “So, all of our internships are paid, and they focus on meaningful work.”

“Interning at Valley Children’s was a defining moment in my IT career. My manager paired me with clinical research coordinators to explore different areas of the hospital, helping me discover my interests.”

Game Day Fun for Valley Children’s Kids

Valley Children’s and Fresno State’s partnership continues to make a lasting impact in the Central Valley, bringing health, education and unforgettable memories to children and families. As part of this collaboration, we host special game-day experiences for our kids during Fresno State home football games, creating cherished family time while promoting health and wellness.

Through the first three seasons, our Game Day experiences have given 18 Kid Captains the chance to step onto the field for the pregame coin toss, making them part of the action in a truly special way. Our tailgates have welcomed 900 guests, celebrating children from our Childhood Cancer Survivorship and Epilepsy Support programs, neonatal and pediatric ICU graduates and kids with craniofacial and limb differences or autism spectrum disorder. We’ve also distributed 3,600 tickets to patients, families and staff, so that more members of our community can take part in the excitement.

As we gear up for another fun season, we look forward to bringing even more smiles to our kids and their families!
